Scoop!
Caught off guard by a sneaky, longlensed camera, Deborah Kerr reveals her feelings for writer, Peter Viertel, whom she met two years ago in Vienna on the set of “The Journey.” Then, Viertel was in the process of getting divorced; and Deborah unhappy over her marriage. Perhaps unhappiness brought them together. Anyway, word’s out that the wedding’s set for July—just about the time Deborah’s California divorce from first husband, Tony Bartley, will be final. Court battles over custody of her two daughters, begun soon after she met Viertel, still go on and friends question if the marriage isn’t a mistake . . . to this she simply says, “For the first time in my life, I feel really, really alive.”
